England's express fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out of The Ashes and the summer season of cricket.
Archer, who played 13 Tests, 21 ODIs, and 15 T20Is for England so far, has suffered a recurrence of a stress fracture in his right elbow. The right-arm pacer will not be available to England for the entire season.
He picked up the injury during the ongoing 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The pacer could only play five matches for Mumbai Indians this year.
Archer spent 17 months on the sidelines following elbow and back injuries before returning to international cricket in January this year.
Following an injury, Archer underwent a minor operation on his troublesome right elbow last month.
Rob Key, the managing director of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), wished Archer best of luck.
"We wish him the best of luck with his recovery. I’m sure we'll see Jofra back to his best and winning games for England," he said in a released statement by ECB.
England will also be concerned about the Barbados-born player's availability for their 50-overs World Cup title defence in India this year. The defending champions are likely to lock horns with the losing finalists of World Cup 2019, New Zealand, in the opening match of this year's mega event on October 5.
